Prof. Dr. Song’s personal involvement in the martial arts (WUSHU) and cultural activities began when he started learning and associated himself with the Chinese martial arts, Lion & Dragon dances at the tender age of 14. Besides learning these arts, Prof. Dr. Song also received his training on the traditional arts of bone-setting (dislocation and fractures), internal and external injuries treatment. He was trained on the arts by the late Grandmaster Lim Leng Huat. He received his Certificate of Proficiency from Singapore Chinese Boxing Fellowship in 1973. In 1974, he was appointed as Assistant Instructor by the Nanyang Wushu Federation Of Sarawak . In 1976, the Grades of Wushu Belt system was introduced by the Federation, Prof. Dr. Song was awarded with the 4th Degree Black Belt by the President & Chief Instructor of the Federation. Later in 1979, he took part in the Sarawak Chinese Martial Arts Tournament and was placed fourth in the Middleweight Class B. In the same year, Prof. Dr. Song was upgraded to the post of Deputy Instructor and was awarded the 5th Degree Black Belt in recognition of his contribution and promotion of the arts. In 1980, Prof. Dr. Song, represented Malaysia as one of the Wushu exponents demonstrating in the 5th International Chinese Martial Arts Tournament held in Semenanjung Malaysia. He, then attended the training of Lion dance and observed the basic training of Chingay in various Associations in Pulau Pinang and Singapore in the same year. Prof. Dr. Song was promoted to the post of Instructor in 1981 and was awarded the 6th Degree Black Belt by Nanyang Wushu Federation Of Sarawak, thereby assuming the responsibility of the day to day activities of the Federation. Earlier in 1987, Prof. Dr. Song attended the training on Taiji Qigong in Singapore and during his stay, he also attended and observed the following cultural arts namely Pheonix, Unicorn and Fish dances. On his return, Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Instructor by the People’s Cultural Arts Institute for the coaching of Taiji Qigong. Prof. Dr. Song was one of the early pioneers to introduce this art to Sarawak. In 1988, Prof. Dr. Song attended the Instructor Course on Taiji Qigong Part II which was conducted by the founder of the arts, Master Lin Hou Sheng of the People’s Republic of China. In 1989, he introduces and promoted WUSHU to schools and higher institutions. At present, there are 30 centres being set up by Prof. Dr. Song for the training of WUSHU as part of co-curriculum programme in schools. In 1990, Prof. Dr. Song attended the Instructor Course on the competition sets for Asian Games which was held in Johore and was conducted by Master Shao Snas-Kang of the People’s Republic Of China. Prof. Dr. Song’s enthusiasm and vast experiences in the arts would certainly be of great benefit towards the development of the rich cultural heritage in Sarawak. In 1991, Prof. Dr. Song represented Sarawak, Malaysia in the 4th Asian Chinese Kuoshu (WUSHU) Tournament in Hongkong. At the 7th World Chinese Kuoshu (WUSHU) Tournament held in the Republic of China in 1992, Prof Dr. Song led his student to participate of which one of his student won the 2nd Placing in the Male Division Lightweight C Sparring contest which mark a breakthrough being the first Malaysian to have ever won a placing in the World Kuoshu sparring event of this Championship. Prof. Dr. Song attended the Kuoshu (WUSHU) Referee Course organised by the International Chinese Kuoshu Federation held in the Republic of China and was certified as an International Kuoshu Referee in 1992. In 1992, the International Biographical Centre Of Cambridge, England (IBC) and the American Biographical Institute, United State Of America (ABI) which are world’s leading research organisations on Who’s Who Biographies invited Prof. Dr. Song to their biographies listing. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Song’s biographical records are listed in the following Who’s Who books: - IBC Dictionary Of International Biography (23rd Edition) , IBC Men Of Achievement (16thEdition) , ABI Five Thousand Personalities Of The World (4th Edition) and ABI Five Hundred Leaders Of Influence. His biographical records have received recognition from the Historical Preservation Of America, U.S.A. whereby his name was admitted into “The Biographical Rolls Of Honour”. Prof. Dr. Song was proclaimed as International Man Of The Year 1992/93 by the International Biographical Centre Of Cambridge, England and Man Of The Year 1992 by the American Biographical Institute, United States Of America after the IBC Editorial & Advisory Board and ABI Board of International Research reviewed through their world biographical files on Who’s Who records. The unique and prestigious awards accorded to Prof. Dr. Song represents the global recognition on his outstanding accomplishment and sets a noble example for his peers and entire community as stated by the American Biographical Institute, U.S.A. while the International Biographical Centre Of Cambridge, England recognised the contributions and services by Prof. Dr. Song towards the development and promotion of WUSHU at local, national and international levels. Being the first Sarawakian and Malaysian to win the two Man Of The Year awards on the same year is a rare honour and pride for Prof. Dr. Song, which the State and Nation can be proud of his outstanding achievements. The International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England also bestowed “The Twentieth Century Award Of Achievement” to Prof. Dr. Song in commemoration of the ending of a millennium. This award was in recognition of Prof. Dr. Song’s overall performances on Arts and Cultures which have created a history of excellent and accomplishments whereby his special knowledge has had a positive impact to this century. In 1993, Prof. Dr. Song was honoured The Outstanding Youths of The Year 1992 (Anugerah Tokoh Belia Negeri Sarawak 1992) by the State Government Of Sarawak in recognition to his contributions and services to the State. In the same year, Prof. Dr. Song, represented Sarawak, Malaysia in the World Famous Person Top-Level Demonstration Match of the 4th World Cup International Martial Arts Championship held in Los Angeles, United States Of America and won the Champion title of the Men category. He is also one of the recipient to receive the Top-Ten World Outstanding Martial Arts Gold Medal Award from the International Martial Arts Kung-Fu Federation, U.S.A. The International Martial Arts Medical University has bestowed Prof. Dr. Song with the Doctorate Degree Of Referee and Coach Of Martial Arts in June, 1993. In recognition of the said Doctorate Degree, the Nanyang Wushu Federation Of Sarawak conferred Prof. Dr. Song with the highest degree in accordance with the Grades of the Wushu Belt System. Prof. Dr. Song was also honoured the nation’s most prestigious youth award “THE OUTSTANDING YOUNG MALAYSIANS AWARDS 1993” by Junior Chamber Of Malaysia (JAYCEES MALAYSIA) in recognition of his outstanding cultural achievement in July, 1993. In September 1993, Prof. Dr, Song represented the State & Nation in the Third Zhengzhou Shaolin Wushu Festival held in the People’s Republic Of China. He was awarded the Excellent Exhibition Prize for his outstanding Wushu performance. At the same time, he made a pilgrimage to the famous Shaolin Temple Of China - the birthplace of Shaolin Wushu, nested in a dense forest at the foot Wuru Peak is situated in the western part of Mount Songshan in Dengfeng County, Henan Province. Prof. Dr. Song is a qualified International Referee & Judge of The International Martial Arts Kung-Fu Federation, Los Angeles, United States of America. In September 1995, Prof . Dr. Song as Chef de mission led the State Contingent of participate in the Fourth Zhengzhou Shaolin Wushu Festival held in the People’s Republic Of China. He was the national coach to the Malaysian contingent participating in the 8th World Chinese Kuoshu (WUSHU) Tournament held in the Republic Of China in 1996. At the same year, Prof. Dr. Song was conferred the DARJAH YANG AMAT MULIA BINTANG SARAWAK “AHLI BINTANG SARAWAK (ABS)” by His Excellency, the Governor Of Sarawak. In 1997, he was appointed as Organising Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge to the 1st Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu Festival held in the City of Kuching. In 1998, Prof. Dr. Song was specially invited to perform at the International Shaolin Wuzuquan Demonstration in Singapore organised by the Tiong Wah Pugilistic and Lion Dance Association, Singapore. Prof. Dr. Song attended the 3rd International Lion Dance Judge Training Course organised by the International Dragon and Lion Dance Association held in Kuala Lumpur and was qualified as a Registered International Lion Dance Judge. In the same year, Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as the Organising Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge to the 2nd Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu Golden Lion Dance Festival held in Kuching. In 1999, Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as the Organising Vice-Chairman to the Nanyang Wushu Charity Show, of which the proceed of the entrance tickets sale was donated to more than 10 charitable organisations. In 1999, he led the Malaysia Contingent to participate in the 4th Jinan International Wushu Festival, China and the Contingent won 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 1 Bronze medals and I Lion King Award. He personally won the Grandmaster title in this International Festival.. He also led the Malaysia contingent to participate in the 99’ China Qingdao International Wushu Championship in which the Malaysian Contingent won 4 Gold medals. At the 6th China Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival, the Malaysian contingent won 1 Gold and 1 Silver medals and 1 Excellence Exhibition Award for Malaysia. At the same year, the Eastern U.S.A. International Martial Arts Association, Inc., conferred Prof. Dr. Song, the award of 10TH DAN BLACK BELT. He was later inducted into the prestigious International Black Belt Hall Of Fame as Grandmaster of the Year 2000. The Association also appointed Prof. Dr. Song as its representative in Malaysia. In May 2000, he led the Malaysian Contingent to participate in the Millennium World Kung-Fu Cup held in Italy of which he personally won the Best Taolu Master Title, Master Champion Trophy and the Millennium Gold Medallion Belt in this Grand Prestigious Championship. On the overall result, The Malaysian Contingent won 3 Gold, 1 Bronze, 1 Copper Medal & one 5th Placing in this world event. Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge to the Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu Golden Lion Dance Millennium Festival 2000. In 2001, he led the Malaysian Contingent to participate in the 1st International Shaolin Traditional Wushu Routine Championship held in HongKong in which the Contingent won 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal for the nation. Prof. Dr. Song was bestowed Darjah Kebesaran, Bintang dan Pingat Persekutuan Tahun 2001 – Bintang Ahli Mangku Negara ( A.M.N.) by His Majesty The King Of Malaysia XI ( DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XI ). In 2001,The World’s Largest and most prestigious Grandmaster’s Council known as “THE WORLD HEAD OF FAMILY SOKESHIP COUNCIL” officially admitted Prof. Dr. Song as its member and recognised him as the Head Of Nanyang Wushu System. At the Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu & Golden Lion Festival 2002 held in Kuching , Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Organising Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge. In 2003, The Malaysia Book Of Records has acknowledged Prof. Dr. Song as the 1st Malaysian to won two “International Man Of The Year 1993” in the listing of their prestigious volume (Gold Edition). He received the award from the Right Honorable Chief Minister Of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud at the SARAWAK Night Of Achievers 2003 jointly organised by the Malaysia Book Of Records and the State Government Of Sarawak at Dewan Rafflesia, Holiday Inn Damai Lagoon on 3 May 2003. As a Record Holder, Prof. Dr. Song was invited as a Special Guest to the Ambang Mereka Celebration on August 30, 2003 at Dataran Mereka by the Malaysia Book Of Records. It is the first of its kind in the country where all the best of Malaysian Reocrd Holders gathered in one night, at one occasion to mark Malaysia 46th Year Of Independence which will also be another record for the Largest Gathering Of Record Holders At the same year, Prof. Dr. Song attended the National Seminar on Acupuncture & Moxabustion organised by the Research Institute Of Medical Acupuncture, Malaysia. He also attended the Course of Alternative Medicines in Homeopathy conducted by the Faculty Of Homeopathy, Malaysia. He was awarded the “Star Of Excellence” by the Faulty Of Homeopathy Malaysia for his valuable and personal contribution to the development and progress of Homeopathy and Complementary medicines in May 2003. He attended the Anugerah Perdana Remaja Rakan Muda Seminar at Hotel Grand Continental Kuching organized by Ministry Of Youths & Sports, Malaysia in Kuching on 2003 Prof. Dr. Song led the Malaysian Contingent to participate in the Yantai International Traditional Kung-Fu Championship, China in July 2003 of which the Malaysian Contingent won 10 Gold and 3 Silver medals for the nation. At the same time, he was invited as the Guest of Honour to visit Wushu School of Laizhou, China. He was also invited to have a discussion with the Vice Mayor of the City Of Laizhou, China on the future development of Wushu between Laizhou China and Malaysia. In August 2003, he was honoured the “Pioneer Award” for initialling the “World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall Of Fame” in Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Song was conferred the Doctorate Degree in Sports Science (Honoris Causa) by Ansted University, United Kingdom in September 2003 in recognition of his exemplary contribution to International Martial Arts, Sports Management and Training and dedication to the promotion of world peace through religious and spiritual development, culture and education. In October 2003, he represented Malaysia in the International Martial Arts “Master of All Styles” Tournament held in Kiev, Ukraine and won “Masters Champion Trophy - Chinese Style” In 2004, Prof. Dr. Song attended a course on ‘Bio-Acupuncture’ conducted by FAA Bio Therapy held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu Dragon & Lion Festival 2004 held in Kuching , Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge. At the same year, Prof. Dr. Song was conferred the DARJAH YANG AMAT MULIA BINTANG SARAWAK “PEGAWAI BINTANG SARAWAK (PBS)” by His Excellency, the Governor Of Sarawak. He also received the Prince Sports Award from the Prince Sport Council, Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia on Feburary 2004. The Medicina Alternativa Institute affiliated to the Open International University, (Alma Ata 1962) Colombo, Sri Lanka conferred Prof. Dr. Song, the Degree of Doctor Of Medicine (Acupunture) - M.D. ( Acu) on September, 2004 On December 2004, Prof. Dr. Song led the Malaysian Contingent to participate in the 1st International Wushu Competition of South Shaolin, Fujian, China of which the Malaysian Contingent won 10 Gold, 17 Silver & 14 Bronze medals for the nation. At the same time, the Malaysian Contingent also visited the South Shaolin Temple at Putian and the Quanzhou Shaolin Temple, Fujian Province China, a Wushu pilgrimage for Chinese martial arts practitioners. He attended the “International Wuzuquan Forum 2004” organized by the International Wuzuquan Union at Quanzhou, Fujian, China Prof. Dr. Song attended the Sarawak Medicinal Herbs & Spices Seminar 2005 Prospects & Uses Of Medicinal Herbs in Sarawak jointly organised by Agriculture Department Of Sarawak, Sarawak State Forestry Department and Chung Hua Institute Of Chinese Medicine at Hilton Hotel, Kuching. In March 2005, Prof. Dr. Song led the Malaysian Wushu, Dragon & Lion Dance Contingent to perform in the Muscat Festival at the Sultanate Of Oman, Middle East. At the same year, he was conferred the title “Professor Of Martial Arts” at the 2nd World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall Of Fame held in Malaysia In 2006, Prof. Dr. Song attended the leadership Seminar on Anugerah Perdana Remaja Rakan Muda organised by the Ministry Of Youths & Sports, Malaysia at Serian, Sarawak and was officially appointed as a Leader of ARP Program. At the Malaysia Sarawak International Nanyang Wushu Dragon & Lion Festival 2006 , Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Organising Vice-Chairman and Chief Judge. He was appointed as Organising Vice-Chairman of 3rd World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall Of Fame held in Kuching Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Song attended the Seminar on “Health Tourism for Complementary & Traditional Medicine / Therapies” organized by Ministry Of Health, Malaysia in Kuching on 2006. He represented Malaysia at the International Chinese Kuoshu Federation delegate conference at Taiwan in 2006 and attended the 1st International Tai Chi Chuan Tournament in Chiayi, Taiwan in 2006. At the same year, Prof. Dr. Song was conferred the Honorary Distinguished Professor and admitted as Honorary Fellow (Hon FAAICL) by the Australian – Asian Institute Of Civil Leadership (Established in the Commonwealth Of Australia.) He was presented the “Sarawak State Gagah Perkasa Award” in recognition of his contribution towards the development of Martial Arts from His Excellency the Governor Of Sarawak, Malaysia in 2006. He was awarded the IMAF Medal Of Excellence – Martial Arts Spirit by the International Martial Arts Federation Europe Hq in 2006. Prof. Dr. Song was invited as a Speaker at the Adminstrative Professional Seminar 2007 “Sustaining Wellness For Excellence” with the subject presentation on Self Defence – Taking Charge Of Your Personal Security at Miri Marriot Resort & Spa, Miri, Sarawak on 19 – 20 April 2007 organised by Centre For Modern Management (CMM). Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Organising Vice-Chairman of 4th World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall Of Fame held in Kuching Malaysia in 2007. At the same year, he led the Malaysian Nanyang Wushu Contingent to participate in the World Shaolin Kung-Fu Championship and Festival held in Moscow, Russia in which the Contingent won 7 Gold Medal and 4 Silver Medals for Malaysia. In January 2008, he was invited to the World Top-Level Kung-Fu Demonstration Match in Kowloon, Hongkong in which he is the sole representative from Malaysia and was awarded the “Master Trophy” and the “Golden Lion Award” He represented Malaysia at the International Chinese Kuoshu Federation Delegate Conference at Taiwan in 2008. He was also the Chef De Mission to lead the Malaysian Contingent at the 2nd International Taichi Chuan Tournament in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2008 of which the Malaysian Contingent won 4 Golds and 2 Bronze medals and was won the 2nd placing for the Overall International Team. His position in various organisations are testimonies of his contributions in the cultural and community works. He was the co-ordinator of the Working Committee and a member of Organising Committee in 1987 State-wide Malaysia Airline (MAS) Golden Lion Dance Festival. Prof. Dr. Song was the Vice-Chairman of the 1990 Malaysian & International Lion Dance Festival (Sarawak State Level) , Vice-Chairman of the Nanyang Wushu Festival and Chief Judge of Wushu Championship Competition held in Kuching annually. He has been appointed by the American Biographical Institute as an Advisor to its Board Of International Research. The Malaysia Zhen Wu Ving Chun Martial Arts Association also appointed Prof. Dr. Song as its Martial Arts Advisor. The International Martial Arts Kung-Fu Federation based in U.S.A. also appointed Prof. Dr. Song as its President for the Malaysia Branch. In June 2000, the International Shaolin Wushu Federation based in China appointed Prof. Dr. Song as its Vice-Chairman. Prof. Dr. Song also known as Shi De Rui is the 31st Generation Disciple of Shaolin Temple, Mount Sungshan, China. Prof. Dr. Song also received the following appointment as the Malaysian Ambassador of the World Head Of Family Sokeship Council based in United States Of America, International Director Of Golden Dragons Association, India, Malaysian Ambassador of Martial Arts Association International Germany and the Honourable COSSACK by the International Organisation “Cossatstvo Of Ukraine” In 2003. Prof. Dr. Song was appointed as Honorary Member by IMAF Europe H.Q. Germany Branch and the Tokon Independent Martial Arts Federation. He is a life member of Medical Science Of Homeopathy, Malacca, Johor Chinese Orthopaedic & Acupuncture Association and a practising member of the Malaysian Society Of Complementary Therapies and Chinese Physician Association Of Malaysia. He is appointed as a member to the Ansted University Advisory Board, United Kingdom and the Malaysian Book Of Records Achievers Club. He also wrote articles on Wushu and Qigong to the press media as part of his contributions to the communities. At present, he is the Chairman of the Nanyang Wushu Federation Of Sarawak, Chairman of Martial Arts Federation Of Malaysia, President of People’s Cultural Arts Institute, Sarawak, President of the International Martial Arts Research Institute and Instructor-in-Chief to the University Malaysia Sarawak Wushu Club, Inti College Sarawak Wushu Club and the Rakan Muda Wushu Movements for the State Of Sarawak. He is also the Award leader for the Rakan Muda Premier Award Program.
