In China, beside lion and dragon dances, Ch'i-Lin or Unicorn dance is also a popular recreational arts for the Chinese. 

The first Ch'i-Lin or Unicorn was believed to sight back in 2800 B.C. in ancient China. According to a popular legend, the Emperor Fu Hsi was sitting on the banks of the Hwang-Ho River when a Ch'i-Lin rose from the water. Emperor Fu Hsi described the Ch'i-Lin as one that resembled a deer, whit the tail of an ox, the hooves of a horse and with a short horn. It bore magical symbols on its back, which inspired the Emperor to develop the first written language of China. 

The wonderful Ch'i-Lin was held in great esteem, loved for a thousand years and joined the venerable ranks of the dragon and the phoenix in Chinese Legends. 

The Ch'i-Lin dance was choreographed by the Chinese to celebrate the existence of the first written Chinese language.
